This is an 150g drum/eggbeater vertical antweight combat robot

Total Time Spent 14 hours

June 24, 2025 :Day 1, the start of the design.

I have made many 1lb combat robots and one thing I always wanted to make is a drum/eggbeater. Making a drum/eggbeater with like titanium would be really expensive. So instead I am going to make a 150g bot that is a drum to be cheaper. The drum would be made out of aluminum with potential impact teath. I might be able to make a normal eggbeater if the material I choose is cheap enough.

image

My goal with this robot is to have all the weight into my weapon so I am going to do something like an 1lb robot I know called vector. By not having much armor and using that weight I gain with no or little armor towards my weapon. This will potentially be better or just a bad idea.

June 25, 2025 :Day 2, Finding Electronics and the start of Cad!!

I have made many other combat robots and for this tiny of a robot I am going to use a HV Maleki. A maleki is a reciever with 3 brushed esc's built into it. I already have one on hand so I do not need one. :)

image

For my drive, I am planning on running 2 n20s or n10s. N20s are more powerful so if I have the weight I will run 2 n20s. I already have some n20s from turnabot on hand too. :)

image

The weapon has a brushless motor meaning I would need to run a brushless esc. I am planning on running a 30 or 35amp esc. I have found these LANRC 35A ESC 2S-6S Brushless ESC Lipo BLHeli_S Electronic Speed. They only weights 6.6 grams!! They have plenty of amps and are a reasonable price on amazon.

image

For the weapon motor, I am using a light but powerful weapon motor. After asking around I have found the FLASH HOBBY BE1806 2300KV Brushless Motor Race Edition which is reliable and is only 18g!! I will either use this one or a potential one that repeat robotics sells.

image

For the power switch I am running a fingertech power switch. They are reliable and never failed me before. I have one extra so I do not need this. :)

image

And finally I need a battery to power the whole bot. Am planning on running 2s and probably below 200 or maybe 300mah. I think I am planning on running 300mah because it might be overkill but at least i can keep my weapon on for longer now! :) These are the batteries I am planning on using! My friend will let me buy some of his so for now I do not need these!!

image

Here is a basic setup on how most of the electronics would be!! I need to make sure I can make it as small as possible but also not crazy hard to wire.

image

Playing around with electronics more. For a robot this tiny you definitely want to spend some time with this. It will be helpful later on!!

image

I spent some time on some uprights and made them a little goofy but I think it be good for now!! :) I can always change them later.

image

I started on the weapon. I have the weapon motor in the weapon, easier than using belts and have proven to be reliable in other bots that other people and I have made.

image

image

I went to check how much it is and it turns out to be a decent price even with a hard material like s7 tool steel. I'm going to redesign the weapon to be normal eggbeater. This means with no screw on teeth.

June 26, 2025 :Day 3 cad!!

I started today by making a new weapon that will be made out of tool steel. This weapon is solid and does not need screws as teeth like my old weapon did.

image

image

Redoing the cad for this smaller but wider weapon that would be made out of s7 tool steel. I am making it wide like vector does because I think it looks clean and would make it be better for damage too.

image

I decided to change to this motor that is made for combat. This motor is from Repeat Robotics and would fit nicely on my new weapon. It is a little more money but it is a good motor. I also can choose what kv I want. Lower kv means less top speed but more torque and higher Kv means higher top speed less torque. I was thinking on the lower but now thinking about it I should go all out with the higher kv one because it will probably do more damage and I have a big battery for it.

image

Continuing cadding the robots weapon and its body. Its definitely going to be a wide bot. That is a good thing because it is harder for the opponent to get around you. Hopefully this will be in weight!!

image

More photos showing off the inside and how it looks at this point of me cadding the bot. I think this looks way better than the first one!!

image

image

Made some motor mounts for the n20s. I did this by making a sketch off the n20s and projecting the line from it. I made a box around them so they can just slide in from the top. They should stay in place! Making it have screws. This will make repairing and assembly way easier in my oponion!!

image

image

image

Seeing how much the weapon would cost, does not seem bad at only around 40 but I still need a person to look at it too see how much it actually cost. Hopefully its not that bad.

image

image

Started on some armor. I wanted to mount the forks to the armor. Forks are helpful in combat because it helps to get under the other bot letting you control them and hit them even harder!!

image

image

Made some armor mounts!! I mounted the armor in the middle to hold it on and in the front to help with the fork. Hopefully this is solid enough!!

image

Got the screw holes for it. For tpu you want the hole to be 1.8mm wide for a 3mm screw because you want it to thread into the tpu.

image

image

More mounting. The armor is mounted by 2 screws on both sides. For both armor, 4 screws are necessary. Not bad.

image

One side of the weapon is held by the motor and the other side needs something to hold it. I am going to run a repeat axel that I have on hand with a bearing that I also have on hand to hold the other side! I have done this with my plant that is a all plastic 1lb combat robot and seems to work really well. This should be plenty of strength to hold this weapon too.

image

This is an tpu bearing adapter for bearing to go on the weapon. The bearing adopter would help absorb the impact when the weapon hits the other bot. It also holds the bearing in place. two for one deal.

image

Here what it looks like on the weapon too!! Will be made out of 95 tpu that I have on hand.

image

Bearing goes in the hole. The tpu stops if from falling out. Also it helps if I need to change the hub size if the weapon hole is too small.

image

How it looks on the robot now!! It looks clean and does not mess with anything else mostly on the bot.

image

Before I start to work on the top lid with the screw holes, I decided to render the bot to see what it looks like. In my opinion I think it is looking really good so far. All the black on the bot is made out of 95 tpu that I have and the white that is the main body will be made out of 98 tpu that I also have. The weapon is going to be made from pcbway out of s7 tool steel!

image

I made the top lid screw holes and a hole for the switch. Next I need to start on weight calculations to see if this is in weight. Hopefully it is.

image

The weapon ways 37.257 grams. This is a good weight. The frame with around 4 walls and 15 percent infill is around 32.21g. This is good. Time to weight calc it all.

image

image

Armor with 4 walls 15 percent infil is 3.19g each. The reason why I would not want to make it solid is because you want tpu to flex and it does not flex well if it is solid. The top lid is around 8.68g with same setting.

image

image

With everything at 4 walls I am overweight. This is okay because I don't need this many walls for the tpu. For example the top lid does not need to be this solid and also I doubt I have 10 grams of wires in this bot. I need to play around with it more.

image

I updated the main chassis to be 26.61 grams. I also updated the armor too. Good thing the hub is light tho!! The problem is this is not enough. I am not even counting the tires yet! I will need to make some changes.

image

Now this is the hard part, it might look done but in reality I need to lose a lot of weight off this bot. I was thinking on making the weapon smaller but, then I am not putting all the weight into my weapon like I said before. Therefore, I am going to try my best to not change the weapon. I am over by 6 grams. I could lose this weight by only going 1 wall for my main chassis but I feel like that be way to weak. I cant take anymore off the armor unless I physically make it smaller. I still need to put the weight of the wheel in too. I could swap my n20s for n10s that are lighter. But i wont save much. The top plate is 8grams and honesty that is way to much. But how can I lose this weight. I can't change the infill anymore, it would still weigh the same. I could try a different material. But if I decided to make out of carbon or something else it might be too expensive. I could take off the armor but the armor is only 2 grams now. I think I need to do a combination of main chassis infill and walls and change the top plate. Robot Smashing League makes good carbon fiber for cheap. I might try this but I don't know if it would come in time for the Hack Club event I want to go with my friend for the first time.

image

I decided to start by taking even more weight off of the main chassis. Its basically hollow inside hopefully this does not become a problem. Good thing tpu is a strong flexible material!! Changing the top lid to carbon fiber makes it 6.025g.

image

image

image

Both of these changes helped it out a little but I still need to take more weight off just to be safe and for the wheels. I also need to go check to see how much this would cost for Carbon Fiber. I submitted the quote to see.

image

image

To lose even more weight I think I need to switch to 2 n10s instead of 2 n20s. I would save about 1 grams from each motor. I can also have a smaller battery for this bot. The problem is I already have these small batteries and I want to use them. What else can I do? I think I need to mess with the armor a little more so I can lose a couple more grams hopefully!!

image

image

After all the changes I am finally in weight! This is the final version of the bot!

image

image

image

I got my quote back from PCBway and the weapon would cost $89. I believe this is a good price. The tires are Lego tires I have on hand. This robot has a big weapon, the thing I wanted for this robot! I can't wait to see how this performs in a real comp!!

Total Time Spent: 8hr

July 2, 2025 :Day 4, Small Redesign.

I had got my robot approved!! I was really excited to get everthing order but my weapon from pcbway and the shipping was an extra 100 dollars. I have no idea what I was going to do but I decided to go back to my orginal design. I am going to 3d print a drum out of super pla plus and buy Titanium screws to act like impact teath. I could also make a flat aluminium bar and but impact teath. This is my plan. I also added a motor cover for the motor does not get hit.
